Algeria is establishing itself as a key player in the regional and international energy security, thanks to the consistency of its supplies and its commitment to flagship pan-African projects, said the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), Ghezali Farid.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the 8th symposium of the Algerian Gas Industry Association (AIG), Ghezali highlighted Algeria’s commitment to the African energy integration through the promotion of large-scale continental projects.
He cited, in this regard, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, which will connect Nigeria to Europe via Niger and Algeria, describing it as “realistic and operational.”
“Teams are already on the ground in Niger to bring this strategic infrastructure to fruition,” he said.
Speaking on the prospects of the project, the APPO Secretary General expressed hope that the gas pipeline would become operational by 2029, emphasizing that its completion will demonstrate Africa’s capacity to position itself as a reliable energy supplier on the international stage.
Regarding the role of gas in the global energy market, he considered it to be the “best bridge” between fossil fuels and the energy transition.
“Without gas, this transition will not be possible,” he noted, adding that this resource “has proven itself extensively,” both historically and in short- and medium-term energy prospects.
In this regard, Ghezali underscored Algeria’s important role within the organization, particularly commending its reliability as a credible supplier.
“Regardless of geopolitical conditions, Algeria has never interrupted its gas deliveries,” he affirmed, calling this consistency an “invaluable asset” that goes beyond mere pricing and reflects a commitment to service.
