Antonio Tajani: Algerian-Italian relations are “very strong” and we aim to strengthen them further

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Antonio Tajani, confirmed on Monday that the relationship between Algeria and Italy is “very strong,” emphasising the desire of both nations to further strengthen these ties.
Tajani, following his meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said, “I am very pleased to be in Algeria for the first time, and I thank President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his warm and friendly welcome.”
He highlighted that the relationship between the two countries is “very strong,” and both sides are committed to “moving forward” to enhance cooperation in areas such as politics, economy, and culture.
“We want to support the teaching of the Italian language in Algeria, and we hope to see more Algerian students in Italian universities,” he added.
Tajani further mentioned that his discussions with President Tebboune also covered “stability in the Mediterranean region and the fight against human trafficking,” stressing that the two countries “want to work together.” In this context, it was decided to establish permanent coordination between the secretaries-general of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Italy, and Tunisia.
“We have decided to organise a meeting between the governments of our countries in Italy, with the date to be determined later, in addition to a ministerial meeting of the 5+5 Mediterranean Group,” he said.
Moreover, Tajani noted that the two sides discussed various aspects of economic cooperation, particularly in energy, infrastructure, construction, and agricultural industries, saying, “We are ready to make new investments in Algeria and offer our expertise.”
