American City of El Kader Proud to Bear Universal Algerian Personality’s Name

ALGIERS – The mayor of the American city of El Kader, Josh Bob, expressed his city’s pride in bearing the name of Emir Abdelkader, “this universal Algerian personality,” highlighting his qualities and his commitment to peace.

Josh Bob spoke on Saturday during a Symposium in Algiers titled: “In Honour of the Nation’s Glories: The Historical, Civilizational, and Patrimonial Achievements of Emir Abdelkader,” organized under the high patronage of the President , Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by the Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs.

“I am honoured, in my capacity as mayor of the city of El Kader and on behalf of my fellow citizens, to extend to you the warmest greetings of peace and friendship as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Glorious Algerian Revolution and the 192nd anniversary of the first allegiance to Emir Abdelkader,” he said.

He expressed pride in his city bearing the name of the Algerian Emir, globally known for his bravery and nobility, recalling the official twinning between the two cities (Mascara and El Kader) 40 years ago in 1984, a relation which, according to him, “has allowed for the promotion of visits and exchanges between citizens and students of both cities, as well as cultural activities.”

“I believe this is part of the very philosophy of Emir Abdelkader, who worked for peace,” he added, emphasizing the importance of elevating the level of visits and exchanges between the city of El Kader and various Algerian cities to consecrate certain humanitarian principles embodied by the Emir, who is “a remarkable example for the rest of the world on how to coexist between cultures in trust, peace and understanding.”
