Algiers: Opening of ‘Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Other Health Technologies in Africa’

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired on Thursday, at the “Abdelatif-Rahal” International Conference Center (Algiers), the opening session of the Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Other Health Technology in Africa, held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The opening ceremony took place in the presence of members of the government, senior state officials, representatives of several national and international institutions and organizations, as well as members of the African diplomatic corps accredited in Algeria, in addition to ministers and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and health sectors across the continent.

The conference, held from 27 to 29 November and organized by the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), is taking place under the theme: “Local Pharmaceutical Industry for a Strong and Integrated Africa.”

This economic event aims to strengthen African cooperation in the field of local production of medicines and medical devices, through solid partnerships that ensure the peoples of the continent have access to medicines, healthcare, and development.

Alongside the ministerial meetings, the event includes several working sessions led by experts and stakeholders in the sector, focusing on various related themes, as well as a pharmaceutical industry exhibition opening this afternoon.

The proceedings will conclude with the “Algiers Declaration,” which will include recommendations aimed at achieving continental integration in the pharmaceutical industry, with the objective of ensuring Africa’s health sovereignty.
