Algeria’s Sonarem Explores Cooperation Avenues with China’s CBTDC

The CEO of Sonarem Group, Belkacem Sultani, received a delegation from the Chinese company “CBTDC” to explore collaboration opportunities focusing on developing Gara Djebilet mine project, particularly in reducing the phosphorus content in the extracted iron ore, the group said in a press release.
The meeting was held with the delegation of the Chinese company, led by the head of the African branch and director of the company’s Algeria office, Danny Kong, at the group’s headquarters in Algiers, in the presence of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the public group branch “Feral.” The Chinese company’s delegation, a subsidiary of the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation “CNPC,” presented its “successful” experiences in several countries worldwide in processing mining materials, particularly in reducing phosphorus levels in iron ore to acceptable levels in the international market, added the press release.
During the meeting, digital solutions in the mining sector that the Chinese company could provide to Sonarem were also discussed.
Following these preliminary talks, the two parties agreed to organize meetings between their experts, via video conference, to discuss the scientific and practical methods for reducing phosphorus content in the iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine, “with a memorandum of cooperation to be signed in the presence of the company’s CEO in the coming weeks.”
