Algeria’s Presidential Election : National Press Highlights Intensified Campaign Activity and Growing Public Interest

Several national Algerian newspapers have highlighted the accelerated pace of the September 7 presidential election campaign, noting how it stands out from previous campaigns due to candidates’ commitment and the high level of citizen interest. This engagement has defied earlier predictions that voters would lose interest due to the hot weather and vacation season. For instance, Horizons observed that the “electoral fever gripping Algerians” shows no signs of slowing, contrary to defeatist forecasts.

Similarly, El Moudjahid praised Algeria for successfully overcoming challenges through a well-conducted presidential election and high-quality campaign, defeating pessimistic expectations. L’Expression added that in the first 12 days of campaigning, there had been no major controversies, and the seriousness of the candidates and their supporters had drawn significant public interest.

L’Echo d’Algérie highlighted how the candidates’ electoral programs closely align with citizen expectations, noting a strong presence of women in the campaign. The daily La Voie d’Algérie detailed the candidates’ field visits, emphasizing the commitment of Youcef Aouchiche of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) to women’s rights and economic reform. The paper also noted that independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s supporters highlighted his development projects and gained support from the Tariqa Taïbia Touhamia.

Alger16 emphasized that the three candidates offered realistic solutions to address social concerns, while Le Soir d’Algérie quoted the FFS candidate’s call for an equitable distribution of wealth. The campaign manager for Abdelmadjid Tebboune described his candidate’s electoral program as having a proactive vision, and the MSP candidate stressed the Western Sahara issue, linking it to national security.

For El Watan, local development was a central focus of the campaign. Echaab underscored that the citizen is key to electoral success, with candidates having only ten days left to convince voters. El Massa highlighted that the election remains the most significant national event, with candidates focusing on outreach and the vote of Algerians abroad.

El Badil discussed the communication strategies of the three candidates, stressing the great interest shown by citizens in the campaign. El Hiwar pointed out that candidates are racing against time, stepping up efforts to visit as many provinces as possible in the final week of the campaign, with the competition remaining calm and fair.

Lastly, El Wasat noted that candidates emphasized social issues and pledged to uphold the social character of the state. El Khabar reported that candidates traveled to southern regions, advocating for equitable wealth distribution and a new vision for development.
