Algeria’s NPA Delegation in Guatemala to Strengthen Ties with Parlacen

A delegation from the Algerian National People’s Assembly (NPA) engaged in discussions with members of the Executive Bureau of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) in Guatemala. Both parties explored avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation, as stated by the lower house of Parliament on Thursday.

During the meeting, NPA Vice President Toufik Guezout emphasized the strong interest expressed by Brahim Boughali, President of the National People’s Assembly, in activating all parliamentary mechanisms to support official diplomacy and reinforce consistent positions. He highlighted that “the cooperation between the APN and the Central American Parliament aligns with this strategic vision.”

On this occasion, both sides reiterated the strength of relations between Algeria and all member states of this regional parliamentary institution, commending the alignment of views on several issues of mutual interest.

In this context, the NPA Vice President praised the shared values and principles between Algeria and Central American countries, particularly regarding a foreign policy grounded in respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, support for the right of peoples to self-determination, and the defense of just causes.

Furthermore, the Algerian parliamentary delegation condemned the genocide perpetrated against the defenseless Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. They urged Central American parliamentarians to unite their efforts and solidify their positions in international forums to “curtail the Zionist occupation and compel it to cease its aggression against the enclave.”

Members of the Executive Bureau of Parlacen, in turn, acknowledged Algeria’s honorable history in the anti-colonial struggle and in defending just causes. They noted that Algeria has served as an inspiration for several Latin American peoples through its national liberation efforts, as concluded in the statement.
