Algeria’s Non-Oil Exports Surge 23% in Seven Months

ALGIERS, Oct 15, 2025 — Algeria’s non-hydrocarbon exports rose by 23% in the first seven months of 2025 compared with the same period last year, driven by stronger sales of chemicals, construction materials and household appliances, a trade official said Wednesday.

Exports of fertilizers and chemical products reached $1.5 billion, up nine percent, while sales of construction materials and ceramics rose by 11% to $560 million, said Abdelatif El Houari, acting director for export support mechanisms at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion.

Exports of electrical and household appliances jumped 36%, and those of agro-food products and mining materials gained 13% and 14% respectively, he told public radio.

Shipments also grew to key destinations — Spain (+$205 million), Italy (+$162 million) and Brazil (+$156 million) — with overall exports up 21% to Europe, 11% to the Americas, and 31% to Asia. Sales to Africa were steady but expected to rise following trade deals signed during the Intra-African Trade Fair held in Algiers last month.

El Houari said Algeria had signed 80 export contracts since January and aims to boost its presence in international fairs. Exporters are also benefiting from new incentives, including 50% subsidies for transport and logistics and 80% coverage for exhibition costs.

Reimbursements for international transport and fair participation expenses are expected to begin later this month, he added.
