Algeria’s Interior Minister Meets Spanish State Secretary for Territorial Policy

ALGIERS- The Algerian minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, met Tuesday the Spanish State Secretary for Territorial Policy, Arcadi Espana Garcia, as part of his official visit to Spain, the ministry said in a statement.

The meeting, attended by the ambassador of Algeria to the Kingdom of Spain and officials from the two countries, was an opportunity to “review the legal systems of both countries and the mechanisms for local affairs management,” the statement said.

Merad outlined “the changes decided by the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in terms of local governance, including the revision of municipal and provincial codes and the updating of the National Spatial Planning Scheme to adapt it to current challenges.”

The minister also presented the Algerian experience to establish equity in development, mainly through complementary programmes in several provinces and the local development catch-up programme.”
