Algeria’s initiatives in favor of African countries reflect continental dimension of its policies

ALGIERS – Vice-President of the African Union (AU) Commission, Selma Malika Haddadi, said on Tuesday that Algeria’s initiatives for the benefit of African countries reflect the continental dimension of its policies and strengthen its position as a key partner in development efforts across the continent.

In a statement on the sidelines of the 44th General Assembly of the development bank “Shelter Afrique” (ShafDB), held in Algiers from July 15 to 17, Haddadi specified that Algeria plays “a pivotal role” on the continental stage, emphasizing that this role “is beyond question given the multiple initiatives launched by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening the capacities of AU member states in the fields of education, higher education, vocational training, as well as the exchange of expertise, notably in sectors such as agriculture and energy.”

Referring to infrastructure projects such as the Trans-Saharan Road, the fiber optic network, and the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline, Haddadi described these projects as “living models illustrating the continental dimension of Algerian policy towards Africa.”

She expressed the African Union Commission’s appreciation for Algeria’s role, noting that the country hosts several headquarters of important African organizations, “which reflects the strategic orientations of the country’s highest authorities and the great recognition within the AU.”

Regarding the decision of the President of the Republic to allocate one (1) billion dollars to the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AACISD), the official specified that this funding is intended to support social and economic development projects in African countries, with special priority given to the education, health, and infrastructure sectors.

Furthermore, the AU Commission’s Vice-President stressed that Algeria has always contributed to promoting African and peaceful solutions to the continent’s problems, considering that the current AU vision is based on the close relationship between peace, security, and development.

In this context, she affirmed that the new leadership of the Commission is committed to implementing this approach by reinforcing the AU’s role in supporting development processes as a means to establish peace and security on the continent, in line with the member states’ aspirations for a more effective vision in this area.

At the end of her speech, Haddadi considered that her appointment to this high position, proposed by the country’s highest authorities, “embodies Algeria’s vision in favor of strengthening common African action and reflects the place it holds at the continental level,” reaffirming her commitment to “actively contribute to defending Africa’s common interests in all their dimensions.”
