Algeria’s FM Meets with Russian Counterpart Sergey Lavrov

Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, engaged in discussions on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, with Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the first day of the G20 ministerial meeting, according to a communiqué from the ministry.

“During this meeting, both parties commended the outcomes of the Algerian-Russian joint commission, which convened at the end of January in Algiers. They agreed to continue their efforts to strengthen the Algerian-Russian strategic partnership, particularly in the economic and commercial sectors, in alignment with the high directives from the leaders of both friendly nations,” the statement noted.

The two ministers also exchanged views and analyses on various political issues as well as regional and international matters, notably the developments surrounding the Palestinian situation and the circumstances in the Sahel-Saharan region.

“They reaffirmed the alignment of their countries’ positions, which are grounded in a commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter,” the communiqué concluded.
