ARUSHA (Tanzania) – Algerian judge Chafika Bensaoula has been elected Vice-President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights during the 77th ordinary session of the Court held at its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, the African judicial institution said in a press release.
“The Honorable Judge Chafika Bensaoula thus succeeds the Honorable Malian Judge Modibo Sacko, who now assumes the role of President,” replacing Tanzanian Judge Imani Daud Aboud, whose term as President ended after four years, added the same source.
Chafika Bensaoula, holder of a doctorate in public law, was elected in January 2017 as a judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. She was re-elected in February 2023 for a second six-year term.
