Algeria’s Army General Receives Chief of Staff of the Italian Army (MDN)

ALGIERS, 17 Feb 2026 –Algeria’s Army General, Delegate Minister to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), Saïd Chanegriha, received on Tuesday in Algiers the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, Army Corps General Masiello Carmine, the Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MDN) said in a statement.
“Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Delegate Minister to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the ANP, received on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at the ANP Headquarters, Army Corps General Masiello Carmine, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, who is on a working visit to Algeria, heading a military delegation,” the same source said.
“During this meeting, attended by Major Generals and Generals from the Ministry of National Defense and the ANP General Staff, alongside members of the Italian delegation, the two sides discussed opportunities for bilateral military cooperation, as well as ways and means to strengthen coordination on matters of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on current issues.”
For his part, Army Corps General Masiello Carmine expressed “his sincere thanks for the hospitality extended to him and the accompanying delegation, and expressed satisfaction with the Algerian side’s commitment to further consolidate cooperation and consultations between the two countries on areas of common interest,” the statement added.
At the end of the meeting, “the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts.”
Furthermore, “at the headquarters of the Land Forces Command, Major General Messahel Ahcène, Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, held a working meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, in the presence of Land Forces Command staff and members of the Italian delegation,” the same source noted, adding that “the two sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation in various aspects concerning the Land Forces, before praising the quality of the bilateral relations between the armies of the two countries.”
“It should be recalled that Army Corps General Masiello Carmine earlier today visited the Martyrs’ Shrine (Maqam Echahid), where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of reflection in tribute to our valiant Chouhada (Martyrs),” concluded the MDN statement.
