Algeria’s Army General Meets with Mauritania’s Army Chief

Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army of Algeria (ANP), engaged in discussions on Wednesday, the second day of his official visit to Mauritania, with Army Corps General El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane, Chief of the General Staff of the Mauritanian Armed Forces, according to a communiqué from the Algerian Ministry of National Defense.

“On the second day of his visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and at the invitation of his Mauritanian counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha visited the headquarters of the Mauritanian General Staff on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, where he received a warm welcome from Army Corps General El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane,” the statement noted.

Following a welcoming ceremony and honors presented by a military unit representing various forces, General Chanegriha engaged in talks with General Chaabane. “The two parties exchanged analyses and perspectives on issues of mutual interest, focusing on the various security challenges confronting the region and the world.”

At the Army Conference Center, discussions expanded to include delegations from both countries, “concentrating on assessing multifaceted bilateral military cooperation and exploring avenues to enhance it further, in line with the strong relations between the armed forces of both nations.”

During this meeting, Army General Saïd Chanegriha delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to his Mauritanian counterpart for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him since his arrival in the brotherly nation of Mauritania. He also voiced his conviction regarding the potential for both countries to strengthen the bonds of fraternity and friendship between their peoples, as emphasized in the communiqué.

He reiterated the importance of enhancing joint action between the two parties in a spirit of ongoing cooperation and coordination, especially given the unique regional and international geostrategic context that has generated new security challenges.

In turn, Army Corps General El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane expressed his satisfaction during his address regarding the strength of the bilateral military cooperation between the two brotherly countries, asserting that this visit would further strengthen these ties. He concluded by thanking Army General Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP, for honoring his invitation.
