At the outset of his visit, General Chanegriha toured the National War Memorial in New Delhi. After receiving an overview of the monument’s historical significance, he laid a wreath and observed a minute of silence to honor the heroes commemorated there, as the statement indicated.
Following this, General Chanegriha was welcomed at the headquarters of the Defense Staff by General Anil Chauhan. After the welcoming ceremony, both leaders engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening military cooperation between their two nations. The talks later included delegations from both sides, along with commanders of the Indian Armed Forces and members of the Algerian military delegation, as well as the Algerian ambassador to India, Ali Achoui. They assessed the state of bilateral military cooperation between Algeria and India, which are characterized by robust cooperative relations grounded in a shared history of mutual support and solidarity, as noted in the statement.
During the meeting, General Chanegriha delivered a speech expressing his sincere appreciation for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation. He expressed hope that this visit would further deepen the cooperative ties between the two countries.
“First and foremost, I would like to convey my profound gratitude for the hospitality you have shown us since our arrival in this ancient land of India. I hope this visit will provide an opportunity for exchanging views on matters of mutual interest and serve as a foundation for enhancing bilateral military cooperation,” he stated.
The General also highlighted the honorable shared history uniting the two nations, emphasizing that their historical ties have nurtured a strong friendship, which has evolved over time to encompass various political, economic, and defense sectors.
“Indeed, Algeria views India as a model of progress and development across multiple domains, from technology to industry. This perspective opens avenues for both our countries to explore ways to enhance our bilateral relations and military cooperation,” he emphasized.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the common history binding our two nations, particularly regarding our shared and consistent stances within the framework of the Bandung Process and the Non-Aligned Movement,” added the General.
“In this context, Algeria and India are integral parts of the African and Asian worlds, sharing commonalities rooted in their respective struggles against colonialism. India was among the first countries to support the Algerian people’s fight for independence, just as Algeria has consistently stood in solidarity with India on the international stage. These historical connections have cultivated a strong friendship that has grown over time, extending into various political, economic, and defense arenas,” he affirmed.
Army General Anil Chauhan expressed his pleasure in welcoming Army General Saïd Chanegriha, acknowledging the strong bilateral relations between their two countries. He emphasized his desire to further enhance these ties in the future, as noted in the statement from the Ministry of Defense. Following their discussions, both parties exchanged symbolic gifts.
