The Algerian State Minister, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab will lead an Algerian delegation to the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on Wednesday and Thursday in Doha, Qatar, the ministry said Tuesday.
The meeting will review developments in global gas markets, assess short-, medium- and long-term prospects, and discuss ways to stabilize markets, strengthen supply security, and maintain a balance between supply and demand to protect the interests of both producers and consumers.
The session, chaired by Libya’s Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, the current GECF president, will bring together energy ministers from member and observer states, as well as representatives of international energy organizations. Discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation and coordination among members and on organizational and administrative issues to improve the Forum’s institutional operations.
Participants will also exchange views on challenges facing the natural gas industry amid global geopolitical and energy shifts, and reaffirm natural gas as a clean, reliable energy source and a key element in the energy transition and sustainable development.
During the forum, Arkab will hold bilateral meetings with counterparts to discuss strengthening cooperation and partnerships in hydrocarbons and mining, as well as sharing expertise and modern technologies in the oil and gas sector.
Based in Doha, the GECF comprises 20 member states holding nearly 69% of the world’s proven gas reserves, 40% of commercial production, and 51% of liquefied natural gas exports, making it a leading platform for dialogue on the future of energy and the sustainable management of natural resources. The forum promotes cooperation among member states, protects their common interests, and fosters dialogue with consumers to ensure stability and security in global gas markets.
