Algeria’s Arkab Holds Talks with Ivorian Counterpart on Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

ALGIERS, March 4, 2026 – The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies Mohamed Arkab held talks Wednesday via videoconference with Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, to examine ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of State for Mines Karima Bakir Tafer and senior ministry officials. It forms part of ongoing exchanges between the two countries aimed at expanding cooperation in strategic sectors with strong socio-economic impact.
Both sides reviewed the current state and prospects of cooperation across the hydrocarbons value chain, from exploration and production to refining, petrochemicals, transport and marketing of petroleum products, as well as training and capacity-building.
The Ivorian minister highlighted Algeria’s experience in the energy sector, particularly through the national group Sonatrach, and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire’s national company Petroci. He proposed the establishment of joint technical teams and reciprocal visits to advance operational projects.
For his part, Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to support Côte d’Ivoire through the transfer of technical and institutional expertise and the expansion of training programs via specialized institutes, with a view to developing an integrated and sustainable hydrocarbons industry.
In the mining sector, the two ministers emphasized cooperation in exploration, production, processing and resource development, underscoring the importance of expertise exchange and value creation.
Discussions also covered the potential supply of refined petroleum products to Côte d’Ivoire and the strengthening of commercial relations between companies from both countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue consultations and update the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation in anticipation of the signing of future agreements, the statement added.
