Algerian Public Television (EPTV) has received the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Foreign Coverage Excellence Award in recognition of its exceptional reporting on the war in Gaza. The coverage was led by Wissam Abu Zaid, EPTV’s field journalist and correspondent in the Gaza Strip.
According to the EBU, EPTV’s field coverage was “critical in helping members tell the story of the dire situation on the ground when the Israeli authorities have blocked access to the territory by foreign media.”
Commenting on the honor, Abu Zaid wrote on Facebook: “Praise be to God, we managed to fulfill our duty.” He added: “I dedicate this award to the souls of more than 250 martyred journalists, and to the wounded reporters in hospitals and those displaced in tents.”
The award was presented at the annual EBU News Assembly, on 21–23 October, in Naples, Italy.
