ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Tuesday that the National Day of the Mujahid is an occasion to recall the immense hardships, profound sacrifices, and deep suffering bravely endured by the people during a fierce and relentless war—fought with unwavering belief in victory, justice, and freedom.
In the message he delivered on the occasion of the National Day of the Mujahid, which commemorates the dual anniversary of the North-Constantine Offensive and the Soummam Congress (August 20, 1955 / 1956), President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that the occasion is “a moment to renew our pledge to the martyrs and mujahideen, and to reaffirm our commitment to the eternal message of November, in an Algeria being built by the will of devoted patriots—those who safeguard the trust and uphold the legacy—an Algeria that stands tall and strong, steadfast in its independent decision-making and in protecting its sovereignty… and advancing toward the goals of genuine sustainable development that will elevate it to the status of a rising and promising nation, full of potential and prosperity.”
“We commemorate the National Day of the Mujahid by recalling, on this 70th anniversary of the North-Constantine Offensive, the battles of honor in which the valiant National Liberation Army fought bravely, demonstrating the heroic mujahideen’s ability to inflict heavy and painful losses on the colonial army,” President Tebboune said, adding that the offensives “amplified the impact of the November 1, 1954 Revolution, which the world followed all its bloody chapters, while the free peoples across the globe echoed its military victories on the battlefield and its political achievements in international forums and platforms.”
The President said that the Algerian people, on the occasion of the National Day of the Mujahid, also commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Soummam Congress, held on August 20, 1956.
“At that stage in the course of the struggle, the leadership of the revolution decided to convene in Ifri Ouzellaguen, in order to support the revolution with mechanisms for coordination and with organizational frameworks and structures capable of achieving its goals — those very goals that were outlined in the Declaration of November 1st. And the proud Algerian people rose up to embrace them and rally around them,” he said.
“And as we stand on this glorious day with pride, in reverence for the sacrifices of our righteous martyrs, I stand with you in solemnity to pray for their pure souls. I extend my greetings and appreciation to the mujahidat (female fighters) and mujahideen (male fighters), may God grant them long life,” the message concluded.
