Algerian President Meets with CTBTO’s Executive Secretary

On Tuesday in Algiers, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune welcomed Robert Floyd, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), along with his accompanying delegation.
“I had the immense honor of meeting with the President of the Republic, during which we discussed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and Algeria’s partnership in this endeavor,” Floyd stated to the press following his audience with the President.
“Mr. President reaffirmed Algeria’s strong commitment to a world free from nuclear tests and nuclear weapons,” Floyd added, noting that it was “encouraging to hear such resolute statements.”
He continued: “It is evident that the President’s commitment is rooted in Algeria’s historical experiences, as the country itself has endured 17 nuclear tests.” He remarked, “As an Australian, I understand this reality, as my country has also experienced 12 nuclear tests.”
The Executive Secretary of the CTBTO further indicated that both parties have resolved to “continue working towards a better world for future generations, free from tests and nuclear weapons.”
The meeting was attended by Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf; Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab; and the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Abdallah Moundji.
