Algerian PM Received by Niger’s President in Niamey

The Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, accompanied by an important ministerial delegation, was received on Tuesday in Niamey by the President of the Republic of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani. During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed the brotherly greetings of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with his strong commitment to working jointly to deepen the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.
During this meeting, the outcomes of the 2nd Algeria-Niger High Joint Cooperation Commission were reviewed. The proceedings took place over the past three days and were co-chaired by the Prime Minister alongside his Nigerien counterpart, Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman.
The Nigerien President expressed his deep appreciation for President Tebboune and conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for his constant commitment toward the Republic of Niger and its people. Recalling his visit to Algeria last February and the significant results that crowned it, President Tiani described that visit as a turning point that gave renewed momentum to bilateral relations and breathed new life into cooperation across a wide range of fields.
President Abdourahamane Tiani added that relations between Algeria and Niger “should constitute an exemplary model in the region, as the bonds existing between the two countries and the convergence that unites them at the highest level are all factors that could contribute to moving bilateral relations and cooperation into a new era based on solidarity, partnership, and joint coordination on various issues of common interest and regional challenges.” He further emphasized “the importance of following through on the High Joint Commission’s outcomes, expressing his personal determination to oversee their implementation in close partnership with President Tebboune.”
For his part, the Prime Minister praised “the deep historical bonds between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and the will of their leaderships to press ahead with strengthening bilateral cooperation by exploiting all opportunities offered by the two countries’ economies according to a solidarity-based approach founded on complementarity and integration.” The Prime Minister also noted that “the holding of this session is part of the implementation of the high directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani, conveyed during his visit to Algeria last February, particularly the need to ensure the follow-up on the implementation of all cooperation activities, including the outcomes of the High Joint Commission, especially in the fields of hydrocarbons, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, higher education, and vocational training.” He highlighted the need to “explore all avenues capable of strengthening bilateral cooperation in a way that responds to the directives of the two countries’ leaders and lives up to the aspirations of their peoples for greater solidarity, complementarity, and growth.”
In a statement following the meeting, the Prime Minister said he was honored to have been received by President Abdourahamane Tiani and noted that he had conveyed greetings from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. On this occasion, he reaffirmed “the personal commitment and keen interest of the President of the Republic in the development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Niger, a brotherly country.” He noted that this second session of the Algeria-Niger High Joint Commission gives concrete expression to the shared commitment of the leaders, as expressed during President Tiani’s visit to Algeria last February a visit which constituted an “important step in the process of strengthening cooperation, partnership, and solidarity.” “His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani has asked me to convey his sincere greetings to his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as the special esteem he holds for him and his desire to continue working together to elevate relations between the two countries to the highest levels,” said the Prime Minister.
“On this occasion, I also had the opportunity to hear the insightful analysis of His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani regarding ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and to leverage their potential and complementary strengths, in accordance with the vision agreed upon with his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” he continued.
In this context, the results of the 2nd session of the Algeria-Niger High Joint Commission for Cooperation were reviewed, emphasizing the importance of following them up with sustained efforts on both sides to ensure their effective implementation.
The discussions also focused “particularly on the economic aspects of bilateral relations, notably joint efforts to strengthen trade and economic exchanges.” This aspect was also the focus of the Algeria-Niger Business Forum, held on the sidelines of the High Joint Commission with the participation of a large number of economic operators and businesspeople from both countries.
In the same context, the meeting provided an “opportunity to discuss strategic infrastructure projects, foremost among which are the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), the Trans-Saharan Highway, and the Trans-Saharan Fiber-Optic Backbone, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to accelerating their implementation as essential drivers for achieving economic development and regional integration.” At the regional level, discussions focused on “the various challenges facing our region, emphasizing the continuation of bilateral consultation and coordination to address them, in line with the shared vision of the leaders of our two countries to promote peace, security, and stability in our region.”
