Algerian Petroleum Institute Wins OPEC’s Best Energy Research Institute Award for 2025

ALGIERS – The Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP), subsidiary of Sonatrach Group, won on Wednesday OPEC’s award for the best energy research institute of 2025, the state energy group announced.

The award ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 9th OPEC Forum, organized in Vienna, where the institute’s director, Abdelkader Guenoune, received this distinction from OPEC Secretary Generaal Haithem Al Gheith, said the statement, adding that the choice of IAP was made at the end of a particularly “tough” competition between several institutions from different continents.

In his speech on the occasion, OPEC’s Secretary General praised the Algerian Petroleum Institute, which he described as a prestigious establishment having trained students who have reached high positions in their countries, some of them having even held ministerial portfolios.

The award recognizes the expertise the Institute has developed over nearly six decades since its founding on November 29, 1965, as well as the high standard of academic and technical education it delivers. It also confirms the worldwide reputation of this Sonatrach subsidiary.

This prize awarded every two years, on the sidelines of the OPEC Forum, comes to add “to Sonatrach’s rich record of achievements, as an international recognition of its contribution in the energy field, both on the industrial and scientific, technical and academic levels,” said the statement.
