
ALGIERS – The Algerian naval forces carried out a rescue and evacuation operation on Monday for a Russian sailor who was in a dangerous condition on board a Hong Kong-flagged vessel bound for Gibraltar from Bulgaria, 12 nautical miles northwest of Cap Djinet (Dellys), according to communiqué From the Ministry of National Defense released on Tuesday.
“As part of humanitarian missions and following the receipt of a distress signal by the National Center for Surveillance and Rescue Operations of the National Coast Guard Service of the Naval Forces Command, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10:35 am, from a Hong Kong-flagged vessel bearing the name +WHITE WANDERER+, coming from Bulgaria and heading to Gibraltar, and reporting being in danger at (12) nautical miles north-west of Cap Djinet/Dellys, on board one of which (01) sailor of foreign nationality (Russian) in a dangerous condition. Immediately and in coordination with the regional center for sea surveillance and rescue operations in Algiers (1st Military Region), a rescue and evacuation operation was launched using an MS-66 helicopter belonging to the 1st military region’s 560th search and rescue helicopter squadron, which was used to evacuate the said Russian sailor to the Zeralda public hospital to receive treatment,” said the source.
