
WASHINGTON – The Tassili N’Ajjer, Djurdjura and Ghoufi national parks, famous for their breathtaking landscapes and unique biodiversity, have been included in the new mapping of the Jezero Martian region, an initiative proposed by eminent physicist Noureddine Melikechi.

This “historical and universal” distinction highlights the inestimable value of the Algerian natural treasuries, now immortalized beyond land borders.
“Our national parks are more than cultural spaces: they embody our collective memory and reflect our rich national identity. Their inclusion in the Martian mapping is a tribute to our eternal Algeria, symbolically uniting our land and that of Mars planet,” stressed Prof Melikchi.
The atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy specialist also thanked the scientific teams involved in NASA’s two Martian missions.
“Thanks to their work and support, and that of Jeffrey Schroeder from Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Algerian cultural heritage shines today in the universe.”
For his part, Algeria’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Sabri Boukadoum expressed his admiration for this exceptional achievement.
“This recognition is an immense source of pride for Algeria. It symbolizes the richness and diversity of our landscapes and cultural legacy, a legacy that needs to be preserved and celebrated,” he affirmed.
