
Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received on Wednesday, in Algiers, the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), Farid Ghezali, who is on a working visit to Algeria on the occasion of his particpation in the 8th Symposium of the Algerian Gas Industry Association, held on 30-31 March.
The meeting took place in the presence of Sonatrach CEO, Nourredine Daoudi, and senior ministry officials.
Discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and APPO in oil and gas, particularly in training, research and development.
The two sides also reviewed recent trends in international energy markets and explored prospects for African partnerships amid global energy transitions.
Arkab and Ghezali also discussed organizational matters, APPO’s roadmap and work program for the coming years, and updates on the African Energy Bank’s role in supporting and financing oil, gas, and energy development across the continent. Both highlighted the importance of coordination among member states.
In this regard, Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting African countries by sharing expertise in exploration, production, refining and training, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Algerian Petroleum Institute in developing the African talent.
For his part, Ghezali expressed gratitude to Algeria for its continued support of APPO’s goals, praising the country’s leadership in training, human resources development, and promoting research and innovation in the energy sector.
Since APPO’s founding in 1987, Algeria has played a central role in supporting African cooperation through knowledge sharing and technical collaboration, reinforcing the continent’s position as a strategic energy source and contributing to sustainable development for its peoples.
