Algerian Health Minister Meets Sudanese Counterpart in Geneva

Algerian Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi met with his Sudanese counterpart, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting underscored their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperative relations within the health sector, according to a statement from the ministry.

During this meeting, which coincided with Saihi’s participation in the 78th World Health Assembly, both parties expressed satisfaction with the deep bonds of fraternity and solidarity between their nations, leaderships, and peoples. They reaffirmed their shared desire to enhance these relations, particularly in the health sector.

In this context, Saihi reiterated Algeria’s readiness to support Sudan’s health sector and explore ways to bolster bilateral partnerships, especially in the areas of pharmaceutical industry, hospital management, and expertise exchange.

For his part, the Sudanese Health Minister emphasized his country’s intention to elevate the partnership and cooperation between the two nations for their mutual benefit. He commended the comprehensive development occurring in Algeria, particularly in socio-economic sectors, as well as its consistent humanitarian stance in support of just causes globally.

On this occasion, the Sudanese minister provided a thorough overview of the current health situation in Sudan and the challenges facing its healthcare system. He highlighted the critical need for rehabilitation of the health system, particularly through the restoration of certain hospitals and pharmaceutical factories.

Both parties agreed to continue their coordination and consultation on upcoming joint projects, aligning with the directives from the leaders of both countries, in the best interests of their peoples, the statement concluded.
