The Algerian LNG carrier Tessala responded to a distress call from the Italian coast guard on Tuesday, assisting shipwrecked migrants off the coast of Sardinia.
Around 2:00 PM, while navigating near Sardinia, the vessel was urgently summoned to aid in a rescue operation for illegal migrants stranded on a capsized boat at sea.
The Tessala acted “very quickly” to the emergency call, successfully rescuing all 30 passengers, who hailed from various nationalities. Notably, there were no Algerians among those rescued. The crew of the Tessala provided the passengers with food and warmth.
All rescued individuals were subsequently transferred to the Italian coast guard around 3:30 PM, who expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the crew of the Algerian LNG carrier for their life-saving efforts.
Following the successful rescue, the Tessala continued its mission as planned.
