Algerian FM Signs Condolence Register at atican EmbassyV Following Pope Francis’s Passing

On Friday, the Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, signed the condolence register at the Vatican Embassy in Algiers following the passing of Pope Francis.

“It is with profound sadness that we learned of the death of the Sovereign Pontiff, Pope Francis, which occurred on Monday, April 21, 2025, in Rome, after a prolonged illness,” Attaf wrote in the condolence register.

“On this sorrowful occasion, I wish to express, on behalf of the Algerian Government, my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Apostolic Nunciature of the Vatican in Algeria, as well as to Christians around the world who share in the grief over the loss of an extraordinary man,” the minister continued.

“The passing of Pope Francis signifies a tremendous loss for all of humanity, as he will be remembered as a figure of exemplary humility and morality, known for his good deeds in service to the poor and needy. Throughout his life, he advocated for generosity, wisdom, and moderation, tirelessly promoting peace and the values of tolerance among peoples while working diligently to strengthen interfaith dialogue,” he added.

He concluded, “We in Algeria will not forget the late Pope’s role in fostering relations between our two countries, nor his principled stance in denouncing the blatant injustices inflicted upon the Palestinian people.”
