Algerian FM Receives Phone Call from His Syrian Counterpart

Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, received a phone call on Tuesday from Bassam Sabbagh, the Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

“The conversation provided the Minister of State with updates on the latest developments in northern Syria and allowed him to reaffirm Algeria’s steadfast position—shared by both the government and the people—alongside its unwavering solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic, a fraternal nation, in the face of terrorist threats that endanger its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, security, and stability,” the statement detailed.

In response, the Syrian minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to Algeria for its support, particularly regarding the Syrian authorities’ request for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. He also appreciated Algeria’s inclusion of a clause addressing the recent developments in Syria at the forthcoming emergency meeting of the Arab League at the ministerial level, as noted in the same source.
