Algerian FM Receives a Phone Call From his Libyan Counterpart

Today, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf received a phone call from Al Taher Salem Al Baour, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU). The conversation stressed the importance of enhancing diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries in light of ongoing crises.
During the call, Al Baour expressed his deep gratitude for Algeria’s commendable position during the recent United Nations Security Council meeting regarding Libya. He also praised Algeria’s steadfast support for the Libyan people and their legitimate aspirations for security and stability within the framework of national unity.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement emphasizing the significance of this dialogue. The statement noted: “Minister Attaf received a phone call from the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Libyan Government of National Unity, Al Taher Al Baour. The Libyan minister expressed profound gratitude and sincere appreciation for the honorable position that Algeria advocated during the recent UN Security Council meeting concerning the situation in his country.”
Al Baour commended the clarity and soundness of Algeria’s supportive stance toward the Libyan people and their legitimate desire to restore security and stability in the spirit of national unity. This diplomatic exchange marks a pivotal moment in strengthening the already robust ties between Algeria and Libya, highlighting mutual respect and shared objectives in achieving regional stability and cooperation.
It is also noteworthy that during the aforementioned Security Council meeting, the Algerian representative reaffirmed Algeria’s firm position on the Libyan crisis. The statement further elaborated that this position is based on several principles and constants, primarily as follows:
Firstly, the resolution of the Libyan crisis must be achieved through peaceful and political means.
Secondly, any solution should arise from an intra-Libyan dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.
Lastly, the resolution should culminate in free, fair, and transparent elections that unify all segments of the Libyan populace, ensure the integration of its institutions, and fulfill both domestic and international aspirations.
