ALGIERS, November 13, 2025 – The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received on Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters Ms. Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), according to a statement from the ministry.
The consultations between the two sides made it possible to examine “developments in the situation in Libya in light of UN efforts aimed at helping this brotherly country reach safe ground, thereby contributing to the restoration of security and stability while preserving the sovereignty, unity, and independence of the Libyan State,” the statement said.
On this occasion, “the UN envoy informed the Minister of State of the steps adopted in the UN roadmap submitted to the Security Council on August 21, 2025, and the objectives it includes regarding the preparation of a legal framework for elections, the unification of executive institutions, and the organization of an inclusive national dialogue in preparation for presidential and parliamentary elections,” the statement added.
For his part, “the Minister of State reiterated Algeria’s support for UN efforts,” emphasizing “the necessity of holding elections as the only way out of the current crisis, while reaffirming Algeria’s rejection of any form of foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs,” the same source noted.
The meeting also allowed the Minister of State to brief the UN envoy on the conclusions of the consultative ministerial meeting of the Tripartite Mechanism of Libya’s neighboring countries, held in Algiers on November 6, the statement concluded.
