Algerian FM Holds Talks, in Brussels, with Sahrawi Counterpart

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Tuesday in Brussels with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, on the eve of their participation in the 3rd meeting of the foreign ministers of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU), according to a statement from the Algerian ministry.

The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the latest developments regarding the question of Western Sahara, particularly at the regional and international levels.

The two ministers also reviewed ongoing efforts to advance the political settlement process aimed at enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination, in accordance with international legality, according to the same source.

They also addressed the main points on the agenda of the joint ministerial meeting, which this year marks the 25th anniversary of the AU-EU partnership. Key issues include peace and security, governance, multilateralism, development and prosperity, as well as migration and peoples’ mobility, the statement said.
