The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral meetings on Thursday in Kampala with several foreign ministers from brotherly and friendly countries on the sidelines of the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the ministry said in a statement.

Attaf met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia, Mohamed Ali Nafti; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Duric; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas.

His meeting with the Tunisian Foreign Minister focused on “the various aspects of the fraternal and partnership relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for their promotion to the highest levels, in line with the guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother President Kais Saied,” the statement noted.

The two ministers also discussed “key issues on the NAM agenda” and exchanged views on several current regional matters, particularly developments in the Palestinian question and the situation in their shared regional neighborhood.

Attaf’s talks with the Serbian Foreign Minister addressed “ways to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic field, in preparation for upcoming high-level bilateral events,” and included an exchange of views on “regional issues of common interest.”

With his Iranian counterpart, Attaf discussed “the latest developments in the Middle East following the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza,” according to the statement.

His talks with the Cuban Foreign Minister were “an opportunity to reaffirm the historical friendship between the two nations and their shared commitment to strengthening the Non-Aligned Movement and promoting its role in defending the common interests of Global South countries.”

Attaf also met with the Mozambican Foreign Minister to discuss “the growing momentum of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two brotherly nations and ways to give it new impetus, in line with the joint decisions made by the leaders of both countries during their talks last month in Algiers.”
