Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, held discussions on Thursday in Addis Ababa with several of his African counterparts. This meeting was part of his ongoing bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) Executive Council sessions, as reported by the ministry.

During his visit, Attaf met with Gedion Timotheos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia; Ronald Lamola, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa; Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania; and Mulambo Haimbe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia.

Additionally, he engaged in talks with Mbae Mohamed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Comoros, as well as Mamadou Tangara, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of The Gambia.

Attaf’s meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart facilitated an examination of opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations in anticipation of the upcoming joint governmental commission. They also reviewed key issues on the agenda for both the Executive Council and the AU Summit.

Moreover, he discussed significant African matters with his South African counterpart and reviewed the priorities associated with South Africa’s G20 presidency, alongside Algeria’s preparations for related meetings.

The conversation between the Algerian and Tanzanian ministers focused on reviewing arrangements for high-level bilateral engagements and exploring ways to continue supporting legitimate causes across Africa.

Furthermore, the Minister of State discussed potential avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation with his Zambian counterpart and strengthen coordination within the African Union, particularly as both nations are members of the Committee of Ten on Security Council Reform.

Attaf also reviewed strategies to invigorate bilateral relations with the Comorian Foreign Minister, emphasizing the importance of enhancing consultations at both the Arab and African levels.

Finally, he examined ongoing discussions with the Gambian Foreign Minister, whose country currently holds the presidency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). They addressed the convening of an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers to discuss developments concerning the Palestinian cause, as outlined in the communiqué.
