Algerian FM Attaf Chairs Ceremony Marking Algerian Diplomacy Day

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, chaired Wednesday, at the ministry’s headquarters, the ceremony marking the National Algerian Diplomacy Day, which coincides this year with the 80th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations.

“I am honored to convey the best wishes of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on this dual celebration, that of the National Algerian Diplomacy Day and the 80th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations,” Attaf said in his address.

Regarding the reasons for the concomitant celebration of these two events, “one of which, of national dimension, reflects the pride that Algerian diplomacy represents for our country, and the second, of international reach, reflects the pride that the UN organization inspires for humanity,” Attaf highlighted “the deep-rooted, privileged and exceptional relations between Algeria and the United Nations, going back to the recognition, by the latter, of the Algerian liberation cause and its placement on the agenda of its General Assembly, on 30 September 1955, as the first decolonization issue, which was a genuine procedural and legal breakthrough at the time.” The ceremony marking this day, which coincides with Algeria’s UN admission on 8 October 1962, was attended by representatives from various national bodies and institutions, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international and regional organizations accredited in Algeria, and Foreign Ministry officials and staff.
