Algerian FM Arrives in Rome to Represent Algeria at Pope Francis’ Funeral

Appointed by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, arrived in Rome, Italy, on Friday to represent Algeria at the funeral of Pope Francis, scheduled for Saturday in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, according to a statement from the ministry.
“The Minister of State, appointed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has arrived today in the Italian capital, Rome, to represent Algeria at the funeral of Pope Francis, which is set to take place on Saturday in St. Peter’s Square,” the statement further elaborated.
The announcement noted that “the Pope’s funeral is expected to see participation from numerous leaders and representatives worldwide, along with many international figures.”
Attaf’s attendance at these funeral proceedings underscores the strong bonds of friendship between Algeria and the Vatican—ties that were formalized in 1972 and have continued to strengthen through both parties’ commitment to promoting dialogue, understanding, coexistence, and mutual respect, the statement concluded.
