Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held a private meeting today in Stockholm with Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard, followed by an expanded working session with members of both delegations, as part of his official visit to Sweden, according to a statement from the ministry.
According to the same source, “these discussions provided a comprehensive review of the various aspects and dimensions of the historic relations between the two countries, as they approach the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the signing of the first Algerian-Swedish treaty, concluded between the Regency of Algiers and the Kingdom of Sweden in 1729,” noting that “while welcoming the richness of these relations, strengthened by Sweden’s support for the National Liberation Revolution, the two ministers agreed to work towards elevating the economic partnership between the two countries to match their excellent political relations.”
Regarding international and regional developments of common interest, the statement added, “the two ministers exchanged views on the evolving situations in the Middle East, the Sahel region, and the Russia-Ukraine war,” emphasizing “the convergence of the two countries’ positions, based on the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, while commending their ongoing efforts to promote peaceful solutions to crises, conflicts, and wars that threaten international peace and security.”
