Algerian-Egyptian Cooperation Strengthened in Electricity Sector

ALGIERS – Means and opportunities of cooperation were discussed by a delegation of the Sonelgaz group, led by its CEO, Mourad Adjal, who is on a visit in Cairo (Egypt), with the heads of Egyptian companies active in the field of electricity, said the public group on Sunday.
During this visit, scheduled from February 8 to 10, Adjal and the accompanying delegation met with CEO of the Egypt Electricity Holding Company, Gaber Desouki, as well as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of this Egyptian electricity transmission company, Mona Rezk.
On this occasion, cooperation opportunities in the areas of electricity production, transfer, and distribution were discussed by both parties, presenting the different experiences in these fields and emphasizing the need to “study ways to establish a strong partnership between the two parties,” the source added.
Furthermore, the Algerian delegation made a field visit to several structures and factories belonging to the Egyptian group Elsewedy Electric, and held several meetings and discussions with the group’s officials, “one of the leaders in cable manufacturing in Algeria, thanks to the technical support provided by Sonelgaz in the framework of the rehabilitation of electrical and gas equipment.”
According to the statement, the visit is “part of the efforts to strengthen exchanges between Sonelgaz and Elsewedy Electric, as well as to consolidate the level of cooperation between the two parties in the manufacturing of electrical equipment intended for the electricity transmission network, while exploring opportunities to expand investment areas in Algeria through the exchange of expertise and technology between the two parties.”
As part of this visit, a framework agreement was signed between the Sonelgaz Social and Cultural Fund and the General Union of Egyptian Public Service Workers, which defines the framework for cooperation between the two parties in the field of social and cultural activities, to contribute to the improvement of social services provided to the workers of both companies, the same source added.
