Algerian Council of the Nation Joins Arab Talks on Protecting Elderly from Abuse

The Algerian Council of the Nation participated on Wednesday in a dialogue among Arab Parliaments focused on safeguarding the elderly from violence, abuse, and neglect. This event was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), as stated by the upper chamber of Parliament.

Samia El Eulmi, a member of the Council of the Nation, attended the meeting via videoconference. The dialogue aims to “enhance regional discussions regarding elder abuse and to explore strategies for their care and protection against violence, as well as psychological, verbal, and physical mistreatment,” the statement indicated.

Additionally, this meeting seeks to “empower Arab Parliaments to review best practices that ensure social protection and healthcare services for this demographic within the Arab region,” the source concluded.
