Algerian Army Arrests 14 Terrorist Supporters, Foils Major Smuggling from Morocco

ALGIERS- A terrorist surrendered to the military authorities of Adrar and fourteen (14) terrorist supporters were arrested by detachments of the People’s National Army, in several operations conducted nationwide in the period from 18 to 24 June, the People’s National Army said Wednesday in an operational report.   

“As part of the ongoing counterterrorism efforts against the multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out, in the period from 18 to 24 June 2025, several operations that led to quality results showing the professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our armed forces nationwide,” said the source.

In the fight against terrorism, and “thanks to the efforts of the Army units, the terrorist named Lansari Ahmed, alias ‘Elhoubla,’ surrendered to the military authorities of Adrar in the 3rd Military Region.”

The terrorist was “in possession of a Dochka automatic machine gun, a Kalashnikov submachine gun, a quantity of ammunition and other items.”

“Detachments of the People’s National Army have arrested 14 terrorist supporters, in separate operations through the national territory.”

In the fight against organized crime, “the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined Army detachments have intercepted, in coordination with different security services, in operations carried out in various military regions, 36 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 8 quintals and 68 kg of cannabis through the border with Morocco, while 50kg of cocaine and important quantities of psychotropic tablets amounting to 117,6576 were seized.”

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah and In Guezzam, detachments of the People’s National Army “arrested 160 individuals and seized 51 vehicles, 73 power generators, 71 jackhammers, quantities of raw gold stones, explosives, detonation devices and equipment used in illegal gold mining,” added the source.

“Sixteen individuals were arrested and two submachine guns, four automatic pistols, nine shotguns, as well as 30754 liters of fuel, 9 quintals of tobacco and 82 tons of foodstuffs destined to smuggling and speculation were seized, in various operations,” according to the source.
