Algeria Welcomes Vatican Statement on the Official Visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria

ALGIERS, Feb 25, 2026 – Algeria welcomed the content of the statement issued Wednesday by the authorities of the Vatican City, announcing the official visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria, at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a statement from the Algerian Presidency.

“Algeria welcomes the content of the statement issued today by the authorities of the Vatican City State announcing the official visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Algeria, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” the Presidency said.

“This visit will help strengthen the bonds of friendship, trust, and mutual understanding between Algeria and the Vatican City State and will undoubtedly open new prospects for cooperation, reflecting their shared conviction of the need to build a world founded on peace and the values of dialogue and justice, in the face of the various challenges confronting humanity today,” the statement added.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Tebboune chaired a meeting dedicated to evaluating the work of the commission responsible for preparing the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Algeria, the Presidency said.
