Algeria, Vietnam Explore Enhanced Police Cooperation, Organized Crime Prevention

The Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Mahmoud Djama, received on Wednesday the Vietnamese Vice Minister of Public Security, Pham Thê Tung, with whom he examined the means to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly regarding police cooperation and the fight against organized crime, according to a ministry statement.

The meeting, attended by National Police Director General Ali Badaoui, “underscored the deep historical bonds between the two nations, exemplified locally by the sister-city partnership between Algeria’s Batna province and Vietnam’s Diên Biên province,” according to the statement.

The two sides explored “various areas of bilateral cooperation between the ministries, particularly in policing matters” and discussed ways to deepen ties and move toward operational collaboration, including through an upcoming bilateral agreement on combating organized crime.

The agreement “will establish mechanisms for bilateral coordination and joint operations targeting drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, cybercrime, economic crimes, human trafficking, illegal migration and other forms of transnational crime,” the statement said.
