ALGIERS, March 19, 2026 – The National Commission for the Sighting of the Lunar Crescent, meeting Thursday evening at Dar El-Imam in Algiers, announced that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday in Algeria, following the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Shawwal.
The crescent-sighting commission, which has branches in all the country’s wilayas, is composed of scholars (oulémas) and experts from the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics.
