ALGIERS – The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Slovenia led by the President of the Slovenian National Assembly, Urska Klakocar Zupancic, during her official visit to Algeria, said the ministry in a statement.
During the meeting, attended by the Slovenian ambassador to Algeria, the Vice President of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Monder Bouden, and ministry officials, both parties reviewed the “excellent” cooperation and partnership relations between the two countries in the fields of energy and mines, as well as perspectives for strengthening them.
Mr. Arkab and Ms. Klakocar Zupancic highlighted the two countries’ dynamic cooperation, such as the collaboration between Algeria’s Sonatrach and the Slovenian company Geoplin in natural gas marketing, particularly following the signing of an agreement last May as part of a gas purchase and sale contract.
They discussed opportunities for cooperation, investment, and partnership between companies in both countries in the energy sector, especially in hydrocarbons, while enhancing trade relations in natural gas.
Additionally, they explored other cooperation aspects related to exchanging experience, investment, and partnership in the mining sector, particularly geological research, exploration, and transformation of mineral resources in Algeria, facilitated by the new investment law that offers various incentives to foreign operators.
The two parties also addressed “other areas of cooperation,” especially the development of new and renewable energies like green hydrogen and the SoutH2 Corridor project, seawater desalination, smart electrical grid development, and cooperation in the development of nuclear applications in medicine.
The Slovenian official expressed satisfaction with the historically privileged relations between the two countries, reaffirming Slovenia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding it to other areas of mutual interest, including energy and mining.
