Algeria: Terrorist Surrenders to Military Authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar

A terrorist identified as Mohamed Talbi, alias “Khoubeib,” who joined armed groups operating outside the country in 2017, surrendered to the military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, according to an operational report issued Wednesday by the Algerian Army (ANP).

“As part of the ongoing efforts in the fight against terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out several operations between October 1 and 7, 2025, achieving high-quality results that reflect the professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our Armed Forces across the national territory,” the statement said.

“In the framework of counterterrorism efforts and thanks to the actions of ANP units, the terrorist named Talbi Mohamed, alias ‘Khoubeib,’ surrendered to the military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, in the 6th Military Region, in possession of a semi-automatic rifle, ammunition, and other items. The terrorist had joined armed groups operating abroad in 2017,” the same source added.

Meanwhile, in the fight against organized crime and in continuation of efforts to combat drug trafficking, combined ANP detachments, in coordination with various security services, intercepted 53 drug traffickers during operations carried out across several military regions. They also foiled attempts to smuggle 786 kilograms of processed cannabis from the Moroccan border, seizing in addition 2 kilograms of cocaine and 232,600 psychotropic tablets.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Djanet, In Guezzam, and Illizi, ANP detachments arrested 209 individuals and seized 34 vehicles, 96 generators, 63 jackhammers, as well as quantities of raw gold, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

Additionally, 19 other individuals were apprehended, and authorities seized a Kalashnikov submachine gun, an automatic pistol, a semi-automatic rifle, 19 hunting rifles, 18,525 liters of fuel, 80 quintals of tobacco, and 5 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation, during separate operations.

Furthermore, Coast Guard units thwarted several illegal migration attempts along national coasts, rescuing 102 individuals aboard makeshift boats, while 334 illegal migrants of various nationalities were arrested across the country, the ANP operational report concluded.
