Algeria: Terrorist Surrenders, Six Supporters Arrested in One Week

A terrorist surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while People’s National Army (PNA) detachments arrested six individuals for supporting terrorist groups during nationwide operations conducted between March 25 and 31, according to the Ministry of National Defense’s weekly operational report released Wednesday.
The report emphasized that “as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, PNA units and detachments carried out numerous operations, resulting in significant results that reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our armed forces across the national territory.” In the fight against terrorism, a terrorist identified as “B.A.,” alias “El-Cherif,” surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar. He carried a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle, a significant quantity of ammunition, and other equipment. Separately, PNA detachments arrested six supporters providing support for terrorist groups.
Regarding organized crime and “continuing efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking,” combined PNA detachments, in coordination with other security services, arrested 34 drug traffickers across various military regions. These operations thwarted attempts to smuggle 2 quintals and 86 kilograms of processed cannabis across the borders with Morocco, while 51,772 psychotropic tablets were seized.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and In Guezzam, PNA detachments arrested 771 individuals. Seizures included 29 vehicles, 196 power generators, and 110 jackhammers, along with a significant quantity of raw gold ore and equipment used in illegal mining.
Furthermore, in separate operations, 18 individuals were arrested, with seizures including two sniper rifles, one submachine gun, one hunting rifle, 32,415 liters of fuel, 65 quintals of tobacco, and 22 tons of food supplies destined for smuggling.
The report concluded that 577 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were intercepted across the national territory.
