Algeria : Terrorist Surrenders, Five Terrorist Supporters Arrested in One Week

ALGIERS – A terrorist surrendered to the military authorities of In Guezzam, and five (5) terrorist supporters were arrested in separate operations nationwide by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA) in the period of March 27 to April 1, the PNA said Wednesday in a press release.

“As part of the ongoing counterterrorism efforts against the multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army carried out, in the period of March 27 to April 1, several operations that led to quality results showing the professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our armed forces nationwide,” said the press release.

In the fight against terrorism and “thanks to the efforts of Army units, the terrorist called “Hadj Osmane Goumar” surrendered to military authorities in In Guezzam in the 6th Military Region, turning in one (01) Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition, and other items, while other PNA detachments arrested five (05) terrorist supporters during various operations nationwide.”

In the fight against organized crime, “the sustained efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined Army detachments have intercepted, in coordination with different security services, in operations carried out in various military regions, (23) drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce (06) quintals and (80) kilograms of cannabis resin from the borders with Morocco, while (4,513) kilograms of cocaine and (214,929) psychotropic tablets were seized.”

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Adrar and Illizi, PNA detachments “arrested (136) individuals and seized (26) vehicles, (148) power generators, (54) jackhammers, (02) metal detectors, as well as quantities of raw gold and stone mixture, explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations.”

“(06) other individuals were arrested and (01) automatic pistol, (03) hunting rifles, (67,524) litres of fuel, as well as (28) quintals of tobacco and (2.55) tonnes of food products intended for smuggling and speculation were seized during various operations.”

“The Coast Guards foiled, along our national coasts, attempts at illegal emigration and rescued (78) individuals aboard makeshift boats, while (145) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory,” concluded the press release.
