Algeria : Subversive Online Posts Incite Merchants to Strike

Subversive posts on social media, published by individuals residing abroad who are hostile toward Algeria, have been inciting Algerian merchants to launch a strike on Thursday. The sole objective of these actions is to undermine Algeria’s stability, the National Body for the Prevention and Control of Crimes Related to Information and Communication Technologies stated on Wednesday.
“Following technical investigations carried out by its relevant services, the National Body for the Prevention and Control of Crimes Related to Information and Communication Technologies informs the public of the online dissemination of subversive posts by accounts and pages on social media owned by individuals living abroad notably in Morocco, France, Great Britain, and Canada. These individuals, known for their hostility toward Algeria and its institutions, are inciting Algerian merchants to begin strikes on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, with the singular aim of undermining the country’s stability,” the source emphasized.
