Algeria, South Korea Explore Strengthened Cooperation in Energy, Mining, and Renewable Sectors

ALGIERS — Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, received on Wednesday the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Algiers, You Ki-Jun, with whom he examined ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and partnership in various areas of the sector, as per a ministry statement.

The meeting took place at the ministry headquarters in the presence of the two State Secretaries to the Minister of Energy in charge of mining and renewable energy and several ministry executives.

On this occasion, both parties reviewed the privileged relations between Algeria and the Republic of Korea in the fields of energy, mining and renewable energy.

They discussed “ongoing projects in Algeria and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in these vital sectors.”

The discussions also covered “investment and partnership prospects, particularly in engineering, power generation and hydrocarbons production and processing,” the same source added.

The meeting provided an opportunity to explore cooperation in new and renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic solar energy, green hydrogen development and energy storage technologies.

The talks also addressed opportunities for “cooperation and investment in the mining sector, with a particular focus on exploring and developing strategic minerals and those essential to the clean energy industry, alongside major mining projects Algeria is pursuing to bolster its national economy.”

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea affirmed that this meeting “mirrors the firm will to boost relations between the Republic of Korea and Algeria, in order to expand cooperation and partnership opportunities in strategic sectors, serving the common interests of both countries,” the statement concluded.
