Algeria-Slovenia: Cooperation in Space Technology Discussed at Meeting in Algiers

ALGIERS, February 12, 2025 – A meeting between the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) and the Slovenian Space Office took place on Wednesday in Algiers to establish a framework for effective collaboration in the field of space technologies and applications.
The meeting was attended by ASAL Director General Azzedine Oussedik, Slovenian Space Office Director Tanja Permozer, and Slovenia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Urska Kramberger Mendek.
In his opening remarks, Oussedik indicated that the Slovenian delegation’s visit to Algeria from February 11 to 13 is part of “the implementation of directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune following his meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob in May 2024.” The goal is to prepare “the optimal conditions for cooperation in space technologies and applications.”
He emphasized that these areas leverage artificial intelligence to gain reliable insights into national natural resources, particularly groundwater potential, strategic agricultural resources, and mining resources, as well as to aid in the prevention and management of natural disasters.
Additionally, he noted that this visit marks “a significant milestone in fostering productive collaboration between ASAL and the Slovenian Space Office in the space sector.”
For her part, the Slovenian ambassador underscored the “excellence” of bilateral relations between Algeria and Slovenia, which became a full member of the European Space Agency last January. She expressed both countries’ commitment to “deepening their cooperation across various fields, especially in the space domain.”
The visit by the Slovenian delegation will also feature thematic workshops that bring together experts and specialists from both nations, focusing on space technologies. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the design and development of space systems, particularly in optics and telecommunications.
